The Indiana University Office of University Archives and Records Management holds a photograph and negative collection that comprises approximately two-million images that mainly document the history of Indiana University and its regional campuses. The vast majority of these were shot by Indiana University’s Extension Division, Photographic Services Department, Athletic Department, and News Bureau. These departments have, over the years, employed many photographers who have become well known for their work. These names include: Will Counts, Barney Cowherd, Jerry Uelsmann, Jerry Mitchell, Jack Welpott, Clarence Flaten, Dave Repp, and Ralph “Porky” Veal. Today, Indiana University’s PhotoGraphics department employs Ric Cradick who studied with Ansel Adams and who has worked with The Rolling Stones. The remaining images in our collection were shot mostly by local professional photographers, alumni, and faculty.
