Description
  • This image scanned from a page in the Bryan House guestbook. Note that Frost has added the heading "Turning Homeward" to the final stanza of his poem titled "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" which was first published in 1923. The final stanza reads, in full: "The woods are lovely dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep - And miles to go before I sleep." NOTE: Robert Frost was a Distinguished American Poet in Residence at IU for about four weeks in late March and early April of 1943. In late January 1943, Professor Russell Noyes requested and Herman B Wells approved for Frost an honorarium of $1000 which was to be paid from the IU Special Lecture Fund.
